Computing resources
The Świerk Computing Centre is currently under construction. Therefore, the only computing resources available at the moment are several PC-class computers for research purposes of the Nuclear Reactor Analysis Group and a small experimental cluster consisting of 3 HP BL465C G7 machines (72 cores). The construction of a large server room (137 m2) is planned for 2011. It will begin after necessary repair and adaptation works in the building No. 88, the future seat of the Centre. Until the conclusion of the construction CIŚ makes use of a small server room in the building 11M. As the electrical wiring and ventilation system of the premises do not allow to connect high power consumption devices, the currently purchased equipment serves mainly for test purposes and for the analysis of application requirements in terms of optimization of target resources, which will begin to arrive at the beginning of 2012.
Test installation:
- Currently configured:
- 3 blade servers, 24 computing cores, 48GB RAM memory and a 500GB local disk for each server, along with casing, redundant power supply and Gigabit Ethernet internal switch.
- 48TB mass storage server.
- mid-2011:
- 4 machines for GPGPU computing, in desktop casing
Production installation:
- the beginning of 2012
- around 3000 computing cores in blade machines
- around 1,2 PB mass storage in disk servers
The exact parameters of the purchased production equipment will be determined on the basis of tests conducted with the test installation. In subsequent years, there are plans to gradually increase the computing power of the Centre in tranches similar to the one planned for 2012.
